Welcome to The Jacobs Journal, a blog that will provide readers with a black middle-class perspective on current issues in politics, media, sports and pop culture. With its launch happening during the last few weeks of the 2012 U.S. presidential election cycle, a number of posts will examine the candidates, their proposals to tackle some of our country’s biggest challenges, and how the divisive issue of race is being used to sway segments of the population.

Tawana Jacobs, APR, was born just after the civil rights movement in Detroit to an IBMer and a registered nurse. In addition to Detroit, Tawana has also lived in Marietta, GA (an Atlanta suburb), Wayne, NJ (New York City metro area) and Germantown, MD (suburban Washington, D.C.). She is an accredited public relations professional (APR) who is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park (B.A., Speech Communication). Tawana has also completed graduate coursework in Communications, Event Management and Marketing at The George Washington University and American University.
